Guatemala Huehuetenango

Huehuetenango has been one of Guatemala's prime coffee regions for years . "Huehue", is at the foot of the Cuchumatanes, the highest non-volcanic mountain range in Central America. There are currents of hot air that sweep up from Mexico’s Tehuantepec plain that cross paths with cool air descending from the Cuchumatanes Mountains. This region is thus protected from frost, allowing the coffee to be cultivated up to 2,000 meters.

The concept of "sustainability" is based on a strong commitment to the protection of the environment, equal distribution of the generated profits, business transparency,  a strong commitment to quality and long term relationships with clients and suppliers.

The coop ASOBAGRI, Association Barillense de Agricultores, was founded in 1989 by 20 Mayan coffee and cardamom farmers. The coffee is grown under guava, plantain and banana trees.  ASOBAGRI promotes sustainable agriculture by training its farmers in organic production methods, investment in infrastructure and operating their own warehouses and drying patios.
